A refugee population of such an extent is a great challenge for any state, including Lebanon. The state struggles to provide refugee camps and settlements to satisfy basic and most urgent needs. Nowhere in the country is the situation more difficult than in Bekaa Valley, a region in eastern Lebanon bordering Syria, where 350 000 Syrians reside. Educational opportunities are not a priority and are, therefore, scarce. Sky School and our community partner are trying to fill that gap.
Sky School started the collaboration with SOS Children’s Villages associations in 2018 and the first courses were run in April 2019. The organisation worldwide helps hundreds of thousands of children and young people on a yearly basis, through its alternative family-based care and family strengthening programmes, education, health and emergency response. In Lebanon, SOS Children’s Villages has launched a collaborative Education in Emergencies project aiming to provide education to children and youth of both host (Lebanese) and displaced (Syrian) communities affected by the Syrian crisis.
The profiles of our passionate course facilitators are to be published soon.
At this moment, Peace-building in your community course is being run in Lebanon.
